About the Role
The Data Center Operator is a technical position that interfaces with multiple members of the IS Technical and Programming teams as well as business users. The Data Center Operator is staff-focused and detail oriented, providing service to user community and support of all computer systems in a data center environment.
Education and Experience
Four-year or two-year college degree preferred, but not required.
Experience in a mainframe environment with a working knowledge of JCL, scheduling packages (Control-M), TSO, monitoring tools, production printing, incident management, PC’s, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
Must be able to cope with a fast-paced environment, and manage situations in a timely and professional manner.
Good verbal and written communication skills are critical.
Experience with system commands and monitoring as they relate to CICS and z/OS a plus.
Location and Commitments
100% on premises located at the Corporate Office, Raleigh NC.
Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm Monday - Friday
Responsibilities of the Role
Execute and monitor batch job processing (Production and Test)
Ensure that all output is printed accurately and on time
Monitor servers and network connectivity using available tools
Monitor electrical, HVAC, and other critical environmental support systems
Escalate technical and facility issues to the appropriate support team
Communicate with third party contractors to ensure that equipment is operational
Thoroughly document issues including descriptions, resolutions, and time frames
Maintain peripheral equipment such as production printers
Maintain program job schedules
Perform backups
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Data Center operating procedures and standards
Update procedures and documentation as required
Must be PC literate and be able to use Microsoft Office products
Ensure that proper shift turnover procedures are followed
Participate in disaster recovery exercises, when directed
Maintain a proactive, professional demeanor at all times
Communicate and work as part of a team of Operators working 24/7
Ability to work weekends and/or various shift rotations as required
Maintain the physical inventory of Data Center supplies and keep the various areas stocked with the supplies necessary for daily production
Requires the ability to lift up to 30lbs
