Now that you have the policy information needed from your Policy Declarations page, you will need to make sure the coverage is sufficient for your new vehicle.
Customers with active NC Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance automobile policies may add a newly acquired vehicle with the same coverage currently listed on their active policy. In most instances, the newly acquired vehicle is automatically covered for 30 days until the change to add the vehicle can be processed.
So what are the coverage considerations and exclusions you need to know? Instead of burying it in the fine print, below are some of the provisions and exclusions that apply:
If the newly acquired auto is replacing an existing vehicle on your Policy Declarations, it will have the same coverage as the vehicle it replaced as long as you request the change be made to your policy within 30 days of becoming the owner.
If the newly acquired auto is in addition to any shown on your Policy Declarations, it will have the broadest coverage we now provide for any vehicle listed if you ask us to add it to your policy within 30 days of becoming the owner.
If your new vehicle is a pickup truck or van that will be used for delivery or transportation of goods and materials, it’s only covered under the rules above if it is used for farming or ranching, or if the transportation is related to your business of installing, maintaining or repairing furnishings or equipment.
If the new vehicle is added to another policy written by us or any other company prior to the 30 days elapsing, coverage on your existing policy will terminate for this vehicle on the effective date and time of the new policy.
If the dealership is requiring increases in liability limits or coverage that you currently don’t have listed on your Policy Declarations, you will need to contact your NC Farm Bureau Agent to authorize and bind this updated coverage to your policy.
